Internship Initiative

Unpaid HR Internships

 

Purpose:

To provide HR students with the opportunity to put in practice recently learned capabilities that will prepare them with the necessary skills for entry-level HR jobs.

 

Participant Eligibility:

Individuals pursuing a college degree with an emphasis in HR and are within two semesters of graduation; and, Transitioning Services Members (TSM) who have performed in an HR capacity for at least 10 years and are within 180 days of separation.

Length:

Three (3) months

 

Roles and Responsibilities

The Workforce Readiness Director (WRD) with assistance from Board members shall be responsible for the organization, coordination, and implementation of the unpaid HR Internship Initiative. Board and chapter members can register their employers as a “Training Site” to host an intern/internship and serve as trainers. Trainers will be responsible for providing the skills outlined on the “SHRM-ECC HR Training Plan” and signing timecards. Participants are responsible for turning in completed training plans and signed timecards at the end of the training. All documents should go to the WRD for the chapter’s records.

 

Process

Eligible participants will register on the SHRM-ECC website. The WRD will review participant registrations weekly and connect participants with available training sites within two weeks from the time registration was received. Participants will be responsible for coordinating a training schedule with their trainer and completing the training. Additional training items may be requested and discussed with trainer. Trainer will confirm or deny additional training items at their own discretion.
