Shari Bruns, PHR, SHRM-CP

Shari is the Director of Human Resources for the Okaloosa County Tax Collector’s Office. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Memphis State University, which served her well in her TV and Radio broadcast career. During her time in broadcasting, she won multiple Florida Associated Press journalism awards for outstanding radio news coverage. Shari transitioned into Human Resources in 2003 when she was employed in the private sector as an Operations Officer. In 2009 she crossed over into the government sector. Shari is a member of SHRM National and has also served on the SHRM-ECC board as President-Elect and Public Relations. She has been involved in an assortment of roles with non-profits such as the United Way, Boys and Girls Club, PAWS and the YMCA. She is a founding member of Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers and currently volunteers teaching English as a second language at her church. In 2019, Shari was selected as a “Woman of Honor” by the Okaloosa County Commission on the Status of Women for having a positive impact on the community.



LaVonne Vasquez

LaVonne is the Transition Manager/Community Readiness Consultant for the Airman & Family Readiness Center on Hurlburt Field.  She has a Master’s Degree in Management with 7 classes towards a Master’s Degree in Counseling.  She has worked for the Federal Government for 42 years working in various positions from Administrative, Management Analyst, Secretary, and for the last 32 years as the Transition Program Manager.   She assists military members and their spouses transitioning from the military to the private sector.  She has been associated with the SHRM of the Emerald Coast for the last 28 years holding positions from Board Secretary, Welcome Chair, and President Elect.  She is a member of the Career Source Board of Directors, Vice President of the Panhandle Job Fair, and on the sub-committee “Career Readiness” of the Tri-County Planning Initiative.  She assists her transitioning members find employment especially in our area.

Al is a retired Senior Executive with over 25 years of Human Resource Management experience. He is a certified Strategic Planning and Teambuilding Facilitator. He served as President of Emerald Coast SHRM and a member of the HR Florida State Council in 2014 and 2019. He currently serves as the HR Florida State Council District Director for District 1. He previously taught the HRCI PHR and SPHR Certification Course at the University of West Florida and has been published in the HR Florida Review Magazine. Active in the community, he served two terms as Board Chair for the Homelessness and Housing Alliance of Okaloosa and Walton Counties. He also served a multi-year stint on the United Way’s Funds Distribution and Community Impact Committees. He additionally served as Executive Director of the Yolanda D Thomas Scholarship Endowment, where he led the effort to raise over $500,000.00 to establish scholarships for disadvantaged students attending Northwest Florida State College. He is the Education Chair and a Board Member for the Panhandle Job Fair Foundation. Having previously served on the Board of Directors for Career Source of Okaloosa and Walton Counties, he now sits on the CSOW Business Competitiveness Committee and Career and Youth Committee.



Aimee Shaw, PHR, SHRM-CP

Aimee Shaw is the HR Manager and Physician Recruiter at White-Wilson Medical Center.  She has been with White-Wilson for 3 years a nd previously worked at Cox Communications for 13 years.  She holds the PHR and SHRM certifications as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in HR Management. She is an active member on the Little Black Dress planning committee and a volunteer with the American Cancer Society. 





Michelle Crocker

Michelle Crocker is the Human Resource Manager at First Nation Group. Michelle has 18 years of experience in Human Resources and is also currently serving as the President of the Panhandle Job Fair Foundation.  Michelle’s volunteer history also includes serving the Emerald Coast SHRM Chapter as the Workforce Readiness Coordinator, Programs Director, and 2007 & 2008 President as well as holding a seat on the Florida State Council serving as the District Director in 2009 & 2010.

Samantha Evans

Samantha Evans has been with White-Wilson Medical Center since 2016 as the Human Resources Assistant.  Her main role consists of recruiting for the medical facility.  She received her Bachelors in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2011. While in school and before moving to Florida, she served as the President of her school’s SHRM chapter for two years.

Teresa Kaliski, PHR, SHRM-CP

Teresa is the Human Resources Manager for Simple HR. She has held her national certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) since 2003 and has more than 20 years progressive Human Resources experience. She is a Certified Mediator through the Institute for Conflict Management in the state of California. Her professional experience began as a staffing coordinator with a National Bank, promoted to Benefits and Payroll. She continued her HR career with a non-profit Senior Insurance company in California where she held many leadership roles in key areas such as benefits, training, health and wellness and employee relations. Since joining Simple HR in January 2006, Teresa has been instrumental in developing HR programs and processes to serve the needs of Simple HR Clients. As the Human Resources Manager she is involved in risk management, labor law, preventative employee relations, coaching and training, performance management, and state unemployment. Teresa has served on the board for SHRM-ECC since 2012 as the Membership Director and most recently Public Relations.  She is also involved in numerous community projects and is a member of the national and local HR Associations.

Gabriela Leysath, MSHRM

Gabriela Leysath is the Employment Program Manager for the Airman & Family Readiness Center (A&FRC) at Eglin Air Force Base (AFB). Gabriela’s main role is to support service members, military spouses and dependents, retired members, and Department of Defense (DoD) civilians with achieving short and long-term employment, education/training, and career goals. Prior to the A&FRC, Gabriela worked for CareerSource Okaloosa Walton for 8 years as the Business Services Program Manager to connect businesses with the talent they need to compete and grow. Gabriela holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Guadalajara, Mexico, and a Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management from Troy University. Gabriela is a certified Workforce and Business Engagement professional possessing the knowledge and skills to successfully engage Businesses and industry partners in sector strategies to create career pathways and work-based training.  It is Gabriela’s passion to work in a diverse culture with challenging differences of opinion.

Glenn Little

Glenn is Vice President, Barnes Insurance and Financial Services an Alera Group Company located in Fort Walton Beach and Pensacola Florida.  Glenn graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Resources Management.  He started his career at a Fortune 500 company as an Employee Relations Manager and worked in that capacity for nine years. Glenn also worked in the Marketing Department at Florida Blue servicing and renewing both large and small groups.  Glenn is an active Rotarian and a multiple Paul Harris Fellow.

Nina Brink, PHR, SHRM-CP

Nina W. Brink, MHA, PHR, SHRM-CP is currently employed as a Human Resources Manager with Sierra Nevada Corporation. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree with an Accounting Minor from the University of San Diego and a Master of Health Administration Degree from the Texas A&M University Health Science Center. Nina's background includes comprehensive experience in human resources; defense contracting; marketing; graduate-level education/research; and healthcare administration, credentialing, operations, revenue and compliance.  In the community, Nina has served as a mentor with Take Stock in Children of Okaloosa County and a Loaned Executive for the United Way of Okaloosa and Walton Counties.  She has also served as the Auction Committee Chair for the White-Wilson Community Foundation's Little Black Dress Party, which raises funds to increase access to health services for women in need.

Mallory Whalen, PHR, SHRM-CP

Mallory has been the Director of Human Resources for Bit-Wizards in Fort Walton Beach where she is responsible for all human resource functions, since 2013. Prior to this position Mallory was the Operations Manager for a small business where she established and implemented business processes and operations standards, as well as managed the human resource functions. Mallory graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree of Business Administration in Human Resource Management in 2011, achieved PHR certification in 2014 and SHRM-CP Certification in 2015. She resides in Fort Walton Beach with her husband, who also works for Bit-Wizards, and their three adorable kitties.
