Diversity News!
As Diversity issues become more and more important in the workforce, we hope to accomplish
the following set of 2000 Goals for the Emerald Coast Chapter of SHRM.
* Provide a monthly diversity calendar for meeting
attendees and the chapter newsletter.
* Become a chapter diversity advocate.
* Conduct one "Diversity in the Workplace" program.
* Represent the Emerald Coast Chapter at the SHRM Diversity Conference.
* And, network with other chapters and SHRM headquarters to learn new strategies to
achieve a more diverse membership.

Accreditation News!
The Emerald Coast SHRM Organization will begin study classes
for the PHR/SPHR exam in December of 2000. The study sessions will be held at Troy State
University in Ft. Walton Beach. Classes will be held on Wednesday evenings beginning on
July 12, 2000 at 6:00 8:00pm through October 25th, 2000 (see schedule on
page 3). The cost of the study group is $35 for Emerald Coast Chapter Members and $50 for
non members. This cost covers a copy of the SHRM Learning System and instruction classes.

of volunteers to instruct the classes. If you are able to assist us in this please call me
and let me know what you would be interested in teaching so I can get the study materials

Student Chapter News!
We are attempting to develop a student sub-group for our
SHRM-Emerald Coast Chapter. All active student members are encouraged to become affiliated
with this group. The potential objectives include but are not limited to the following:
* Increase student membership and participation with Chapter
* Provide for networking among HR students in local area
* Keep students current on HR developments and issues
* Provide opportunity to interact with HR professionals
* Coordinate opportunities for interships
* Encourage increased students participation in overall Chapter activities

The Executive Board is pleased to
announce two recent appointments. Terri Reshard of University of West Florida has joined
us as By-Laws Committee Chair and Susan Gates of Metric Systems is our new Hospitality
Chair. We welcome Terri and Susan and look forward to working with them throughout the
year.
